September Athlete of the Month: Jill Wallace!

How long have you been with CrossFit Torrent and what made you decide to start?

 2 and a half years. I’ve been into fitness my entire life, anything from bodybuilding shows, half marathons, cheerleading to orange theory. I was looking for something more challenging and saw Torrent opening. I was nervous to join at first but decided to just go for it. Best decision ever!

What do you do when you’re not at CFT?

 I am an Area Sales Manager at Advia Credit Union. I just bought a house on a lake and love lake life with my friends, cruising in my Jeep & Michigan football!

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

 Immediately! I thought I was in great shape, coming off training for a half marathon. After my first WOD I realized how much more potential I had to push myself physically and mentally! I also noticed right away how much personal attention each Coach gives and love the feedback.

What were your thoughts after your first WOD?

 I thought I was in shape, why am I on the verge of throwing up?!!

What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?

 Favorite: burpees & box jumps. I struggle with overhead squats 

What is the one thing you have done at CFT that you never thought you would do?

 Kip swings! It almost took me 2 years for it to click.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

I love watching all the other athletes working hard around me. It pushes me to get up at 5:30 every morning and push myself!

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?

 I love the variety of the workouts and everyone that I’ve become good friends with!

What are your short term and long term goals?

 Strict pull ups & toes to bar

Have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Torrent?

 Yes! I am stronger than I have ever been. I love mentally pushing myself through workouts. It gives me the confidence to push myself outside of my comfort zone in other aspects of my life.

What impact has CFT had on you in and out of the gym?

I feel more focused during my day after a 6AM workout. Work is better & I get better sleep. The biggest impact is all of the great friends I have made! I love doing things outside of the gym with the CrossFit fam!
