How long have you been with CrossFit Torrent and what made you decide to start? 1.5 years. My friend bought me a month membership as a Birthday gift so I could join her in class. She was a party pooper and we never even took one class together!!
What do you do when you’re not at CFT? I work full time as a nurse examiner at Bronson Sexual Assault Services & also staff Bronson’s Child Advocacy Center evaluating for child abuse. When I am not at work you can find me with my family (two human sons, one doggie son, and hubby) or with friends. I enjoy being on the go and love being outside in nature and trying new things.
When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you? Pretty much my first day. It was fun, not boring, the supportive atmosphere was immediately noticeable and it is 3 minutes from my house so I can make a 5 am class before work without too much trouble.
What were your thoughts after your first WOD? Did I make it? Am I alive?
What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement? Over head squats all the way.
What is the one thing you have done at CFT that you never thought you would do? Honestly, all of it but I can now lift heavish weights, kip swing and as a result of the past few months, I can now run a full mile without puking. All wins in my book with lots of opportunities to continue growing.
What motivates you during a tough workout? When everyone else is struggling just as much as me but we are all pushing through it together. Good music always helps.
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit? Everything is customizable and I never feel weak or less than when I need to modify a movement because everyone is so supportive and genuinely excited when milestones are reached no matter how small they are.
What are your short-term and long-term goals? Short Term- Gain control in gymnastic movements instead of being a floppy fish. Long Term- Be able to complete workouts using intermediate or RX weight choices.
How have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Torrent? My daily tasks (stairs, wrangling kiddos, one trip of unloading groceries etc.) are much, much easier. I am getting stronger for sure.
What impact has CFT had on you in and out of the gym? CFT is a great way for me to hit the reset button each morning and destress. I look forward to it each morning and definitely notice the difference when I skip a day.
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFT? STICK WITH IT and trust the process. It WILL click at some point. Each day is a step closer to a stronger, faster, healthier version of you.
Favorite Cheat Meal: It really depends on the day. Anything loaded with cheese (pizza, nachos, mac and cheese), ice cream, french fries.
Favorite TV show/ Movie: No favorites.
Favorite CrossFit Athlete: I am not a fangirl unless I know you personally so I would say all my CrossFit Torrent Teammates!
Sherri is one of our most impressive members. She is incredibly consistent and gets to the gym regardless of her work or family schedule. Her consistency is paying off because she has increased her strength, endurance and gymnastics abilities. She has also been working on her nutrition. I’ve recently had the pleasure of coaching Sherri a few days a week. She truly is a ray of sunshine (even in the darkness of 5AM). This girl comes in every day ready to put her head down and work.
