Farm stands and farmers markets are perfect for fresh produce from local areas. And not to mention the variety. They can also help you on prepping and cooking and even freezing to use later. And the prices can be very comparable if not cheaper than going to grocery stores.

But what can you freeze? Berries of all kinds, bananas, apples, pineapple, kiwi, mango, peaches and nectarines, cherries, and grapes. And as far as veggies can be corn, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, squash and winter greens such as spinach, kale, chard and collards. Veggies that won’t freeze well are those that contain a lot of water. For example, cucumbers, cabbage, radishes, mushrooms and lettuce.
Another way to save a bit of money is to buy in bulk. Just ask and the farmers can make a deal with you too.
And don’t forget about aromatics!! Fresh herbs, smaller peppers and onions can be frozen too. For fresh herbs, bust out the old school ice trays. Chop and divide the herbs in each section and pour just enough extra virgin olive oil to cover. Then pop in the freezer. Once frozen, you can pop out of the trays and place in a freezer bag to preserve their flavors.
