How long have you been with CrossFit Torrent and what made you decide to start? I started CrossFit 4 years ago when my husband and I moved to the area and realized there were really no other options for weightlifting. It was CrossFit or Planet Fitness, so we went CrossFit!
When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you? My first class. I didn’t realize how much I’d enjoy showing up and having someone have a work out planned for you in a really encouraging group setting.
What were your thoughts after your first WOD? OMG.
What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement? My favorite movement is the dumbbell snatch. I cannot stand doing wallballs or sumo deadlift high pulls (seriously– ew).
What is the one thing you have done at CFT that you never thought you would do? Honestly just moving well and loving it. I was NOT athletic or coordinated growing up, so being at CFT and learning how to move and move well has been really empowering.
What motivates you during a tough workout? I (cheesily) always tell myself that I can do anything that I put my mind to and that I’ll be better for doing whatever the work out is. So far I’ve been right and it works!
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit? I love how adaptable it is for wherever you are at in your fitness journey. I’ve been a newbie, done RX wods, rehabbed an injury, and now all through pregnancy. Each day you show up and whatever the workout is, it can be adjusted to suit your needs and your goals.
What are your short term and long term goals? Short term I just want to keep moving and keep active through the remainder of my pregnancy. Long term, I can’t wait to get back to RX wods and maybe some box jumps.
How have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Torrent? Mentally I think I’m way more willing to try new things and work on a skill. When I first started, I wanted to be able to do all things RX, even if it wasn’t the best decision. Now I have zero problem scaling and working towards a new skill. Physically I really believe that I’m in the best shape of my life, even being 9 months pregnant, and that feels pretty dang good.
What impact has CFT had on you in and out of the gym? I think I’m more confident in myself in both settings, but in the gym I’m way more outgoing because of how great the people are. That’s a big deal for an introvert!
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFT? Just keep showing up and doing the best you can on that day. It’s worth it, I promise!
