From: Hillsdale, PA
How long have you been with CrossFit Torrent and what made you decide to start? From inception! Came with Callie!
When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you? I realized when it mixed lifting weights and cardio. It also is difficult, I want to be challenged when I work out. Not just go through the motions. If I’m rolling around on the ground after a WOD, it was a good workout.
What were your thoughts after your first WOD? I’m more than thrilled that Eric Dye and Carlie Jo wanted me to do the EMOM, but every other other min. The workout was really difficult but I give credit to these two for having me do a workout that was appropriate/approachable for my first ever WOD.
What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement? Favorite is wall balls, whole body movement. Truly any cardio is my favorite. Least favorite…. I really don’t want this in print because I will see it more from Brandon, burpee box jump overs.
What is the one thing you have done at CFT that you never thought you would do? Most recently is 100 burpees in a workout… but that wasn’t the only part of the workout 😬. Overall is climb a rope more efficiently and somehow get multiple kipping pull ups… 🤷🏼♀️
What motivates you during a tough workout? Knowing it will come to an end hahaha 🤣 Classes are only an hour long. The best motivation is the accomplishment afterwards. I always secretly hope we redo workouts to see if I can do better next time.
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit? That it’s welcoming to everyone. Truly everyone can do this. Everything. Is. Modifiable.
What are your short term and long term goals? Short term is getting better at all Olympic lifts. Long term is finally getting that 70.3 (half iron man) that I have been trying to get accomplished since 2020.
How have you seen yourself change- mentally and physically since joining Torrent? I see this every year over lent. I adhere to a strict diet plan. The rest of the year I am eating whatever. Life’s short, I know I CAN pay close attention to what I eat but what’s more important is feeling confident in your own skin. It doesn’t matter how much I weigh knowing I am getting “stars” on WODify. 😉
What impact has CFT had on you in and out of the gym? I love to work out at the end of the day. Work doesn’t seem nearly as difficult as the WOD. It also has shown me anything is possible, like riding my bike across Iowa or getting up and running 7 miles in the middle of the night in the woods. Small day to day things seem easier to achieve when you “remember what we did last Wednesday” and how difficult it was.
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFT? Everything. Is. Modifiable. I have never been in an environment more welcoming to everyone. Come and try once. I always try everything once, twice if I like it.
Favorite Cheat Meal: anything full of sugar and carbs. Candy. Bread. Alcohol. Chocolate.
Favorite TV show/ Movie: Family Guy, The Office, Seinfeld and South Park. I’m also a sucker for the news. 😬 If I had to pick one movie, OG Disney Alice in Wonderland.
Favorite CrossFit Athlete: Tia-Clair Toomey. A very close second is Jon Perry.
Dana is a character ( I mean member ) that you can’t help but smile when she walks through the doors. She’s filled with never ending, awesome questions and brings her all to every class. She knows how to put FUN into a hard WOD and we appreciate her presence at Torrent so much!
